Game of Thrones in Spain
Visiting The Game of Thrones scenarios in Spain
I must be one of the few people who has never seen Game Of Thrones. I heard, however, that there was a nice little walk to one of the scenarios and that It was spectacular. Since It was close to where we were we decided to give It a go. You can find San Juan de Gaztelugatxe to the right driving from Mundaka to Bakio. There Is a small parking right on the road and a bigger one driving down the road around 200 m. I went mid September and had no problems to park the van.
The day was clear and warm and the sea was calm. The views are breathtaking and I couldn't stop thinking how would It look In a proper winter day, when wind and waves would be unleashing their power. A steep road takes you to the bottom of the hill, where the meandering stairs take you to the church. Take your time enjoy the light, the wild structure of the cliffs and the waves crashing at both sides of the stairs. You can guess what kind of beach lyes at the bottom for the different sounds of the waves!
It looks like you have to ring the bell three times to get rid of wicked spirits, but the bell was tucked away and we just hoped that the climb to the church was enough to protect us. We went later In the day and were gifted a beautiful sunset when we came back to the parking lot, we sat In the quiet, drunk a beer and enjoyed the colors of the sun finishing Its working day.
