Latitude 49° 55.735’ S

Longitude 174° 29.909’ E

Sea state: 1 m swell

Sea temperature:11.9°

We have gone from blue to grey, sky is permanently overcast, temperature keeps dropping and it is raining. We are a few miles away from the first station but the activity is still frantic. Emergency drills, fire drills and evacuation drills are keeping us busy during the morning. In the afternoon we check for the nth time that everything works, that we all know what to do when we get to the sampling station, as a choreography that we have trained one thousand times waiting for the grand opening. Butterflies in my stomach, needles in my fingers, we are almost there!!
